As the Community Health Worker Training Program Coordinator (HSC 3) you will:
  • Support DOH’s mission by training community health workers who work to improve people’s health and reduce health disparities.
  • Lead the facilitation of the Department’s statewide Community Health Worker Training Program including Core training and health specific modules.
  • Expedite curriculum development and adaptation, individual coaching, training logistics, data tracking, and managing relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Support the exploration and implementation of new training models, including train-the-trainer, and incorporate recommendations from the CHW Leadership Committee and community into the training program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Facilitate in-person and web-based CHW core competency trainings and support multiple Health Specific Modules (HSM) per quarter, which includes coordinating with DOH subject matter experts as needed.
  • Manage the Community Health Worker on-line registration process, which includes building and updating registration forms, filtering and verifying enrollment data and then uploading into Learning Management System for training.
  • Support coordination with local partners including hosting for in-person trainings when applicable.
  • Manage, coordinate and develop quality improvement processes.
  • In alignment with CHW Leadership Committee and community, review curriculum and identify opportunities to adapt and make content changes based on stakeholder and evaluation feedback.
  • Lead utilization of database systems to collect and monitor participant data, and to establish broadcast communications to various groups and sub-groups related to the CHWTS project.

The duty station for this hybrid position is in King County, WA. This position will interact in-person or online with internal and external partners and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings to receive and provide program-related information in order to maintain a coordinated and cohesive program unit. An alternative work schedule may be considered upon request and supervisor approval. This would need to be a conversation between the hiring supervisor and the incumbent.

The Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Program is located within the Community Workforce and Partnerships Section in the Office of Family and Community Health Improvements. The CHW Training Program goal is to reduce health disparities by training community health workers who work to improve people’s health and reduce health disparities.

  • Salary Note: The salary listed includes 5% premium pay due to the duty station of these positions being located in King County.

Required Qualifications
Note: Experience defined below may have been gained through lived, volunteer, professional, or a combination of experiences. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.
  • Option 1: At least four (4) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Community Health Worker or similar title (such as Community Health Advocate, Promotora de Salud) with experience developing and facilitating health education or similar trainings including review and adaptation of training curriculum for adult community members, other CHWs or colleagues.
OR
  • Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public health, community health, social work, health communications, public administration, or related field; AND at least two (2) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Community Health Worker or similar title (such as Community Health Advocate, Promotora de Salud) with experience developing and facilitating health education or similar trainings including review and adaptation of training curriculum for adult community members, other CHWs or colleagues.
AND,
  • At least 2 years’ experience participating in collaborations with diverse stakeholders, addressing health disparities, equity, and/or working with historically marginalized groups.
