NDDOT Starting Salary: $4,204 / month*

  • Construction Technician I level may be considered, salary dependent on experience.

Summary of Work

  • Construction Inspection Activities
    • Field inspection for all types of construction projects.
    • Prepare daily inspection diaries, pay quantity entries, and labor compliance interviews.
    • Ensure the contractor is following plans, specifications, and contract documents.
    • Identify items that are not in compliance and make corrections or notify the project engineer for their action.
  • Preliminary and Construction Survey
    • Assist survey crew in using Robotic Total Station Open Roads Designer equipment.
    • Measure, calculate, and print reports and cross sections utilizing Microstation and Geopack programs.
    • Keep survey notes and records, and load survey data into data collectors.
  • Material Testing
    • For field lab, soils, aggregates, concrete, and hot bituminous pavement.
    • Perform daily tests and prepare forms for all types of projects.
    • Ensure materials are within NDDOT specifications.
  • Field Work
    • Must have physical mobility compatibility to work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces.
    • Traffic and machinery hazards may be present or occur, safety training is provided.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds.
    • Extended periods of standing, stairs up and down, exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, smoke, and fumes.
  • Office Work
    • Enter data into Construction Automated Records System (CARS) program.
    • Prepare data and survey notes for computer entry.
    • Prepare spreadsheets and materials files.
    • Calculate pay quantities.
  • Winter Assignments
    • Assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records.
    • Assist project engineers with district design work, which requires the use of Microstation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED, and two years of related work experience, or
  • College-level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field may substitute for work requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with GPS, Robotic, and conventional total station surveying equipment is preferred.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license in order to travel to project locations.
  • Underfill Engineering Technician I:
  • Requires successful completion of High School diploma or GED and demonstrated knowledge of fundamental math concepts.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check, and driving records check.
