Job Purpose

SOP Coordinators (System Operating Procedure) oversee all aspects of the SOP Process within the New York Gas Control Center, providing final approval to all SOPs, and making critical decisions daily to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to National Grids customers. The SOP Coordinator is the subject matter expert in the Control Center, and acts as the main liaison between field operations and Gas Control.

Key Accountabilities

  • Administer the SOP process to ensure safety and reliable delivery of gas service to National Grid’s Gas Transmission and Distribution systems in New York
  • Review and grant final approval to all planned work on the Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution systems
  • Authorize the execution of projects between Field Operations and Control Center Operations daily
  • Validate proper procedural execution of all SOPS
  • Visit job-sites for regular SOP Field Observations
  • Subject matter expert within the Control Center
  • Main point of contact for all Construction and Field Operations personnel to the Control Center
  • Train Gas System Operators, Field personnel and engineering on how to safely draft, review and execute SOPs
  • Support all SOP system issues to allow the field to have access 24/7 to the operating system
  • Continuous training in the Control Center and at various field locations
  • Direct field operations in restoration activates resulting from damages and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Maintain Gas System Operator qualifications to operate the gas system as a Gas System Operator.
  • Position requires periodic travel within the service territory

Qualifications

  • Position requires a solid technical foundation satisfied by natural gas utility field experience, 3 years of Gas Control Experience or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Successful candidate must be able to learn and understand new concepts, and be able to coordinate projects together
  • Candidate will gain knowledge of internal SOP process,
  • Gas Work Methods, Standards and Procedures
  • Mapping Software ESRI Platform
  • SynerGEE (modeling software)
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including use of standard Windows and Microsoft Office applications

$89k - $105k a year
