We are seeking a Claims Counsel to join our team in Schuylkill Haven, PA, Langhorne, PA, or Jacksonville, FL. The Claims Counsel will provide strategic legal support for The Evans Network of Companies (“ENOC”). This position will manage claims and litigation arising from ENOC trucking and brokerage operations. Claims Counsel will act as the liaison between ENOC’s executive team and its outside counsel to effectively manage risk.

Essential Job Duties

• Collaborate with the internal team, outside counsel and our TPA to chart the best and most cost-efficient course for resolving claims
• Closely monitor the status of claims and the resulting impacts to the ENOC risk management policy for the fiscal year
• Work with outside actuaries to identify and understand claims trends involving claims and provide recommendations to the executive team regarding those trends
• Work alongside ENOC safety and compliance team to ensure that appropriate risk mitigation practices are deployed and maintained throughout the organization
• Draft, negotiate, and execute legal documents
• Design and improve creative approaches to legal issues that align with our business initiatives
• Assist outside counsel with responding to pleadings and discovery
• Travel to hearings, settlement conferences, mediations, and trials
• Respond to incoming subpoenas involving current and previous drivers
• Assist Human Resources with responses for Unemployment Compensation and Workers Compensation claims involving current and previous drivers
• Interact with the ENOC business leaders on a regular basis to gain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the business

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from accredited law school; must be in good standing in the bar of at least 1 state
• 5+ years of legal experience at a trucking company or a law firm, defending a trucking company
• Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed organizations
• Advanced knowledge and practical application industry standards and best practices
• Ability to tactfully influence all parties
• Flexible mindset; ability to understand multiple perspectives and find the best possible solution
• Capacity to oversee a large portfolio of claims across various lines of coverage
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative - acting in the interests of a common cause and a true team player
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
• Self-starter who can develop effective networks with internal customers and external stakeholders
• Ability and willingness to travel to Schuylkill Haven, PA several days per month, with periodic travel throughout the continental U.S.
• High level of integrity and proven ability to maintain and protect confidentiality
• Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

• Transportation industry experience
• Experience with commercial auto and/or motor carrier coverages and claims

This is a hybrid position that will be expected to be on-site 1-2 days a week at one of our offices in Langhorne, PA, Schuylkill Haven, PA, or Jacksonville, FL .
