Crisis Peer Support Specialist

Compensation – $17.50 (based on experience, education, and certifications)

Position Summary: A Crisis Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is an active member of the crisis team and is responsible for supporting Crisis CMT’s in the provision of on/off site crisis intervention and stabilization, short-term case management, and peer support services to adults, children, and adolescents in crisis or emergency mental health situations 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. PSS provide peer support services to members with serious mental illness, substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders under the supervision of the assigned supervisor. Crisis Peers Support Specialists will work directly with CMT’s as a 2-person team in responding to crisis activations in the community and will function as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills to serve as a consumer advocate and perform a wide range of tasks to assist peers and support the goals of the crisis mobile team. The primary goals of the Crisis Team are hospital or jail diversion, in home stabilization, member safety planning, suicide prevention, and other tasks relating to this goal as required.
Qualifications Required:
· High school Diploma or GED required.
· Certification as a Peer Support Specialist
· Must be 21 years of age or older.
· Support CMT’s as they provide short-term crisis intervention services in the community or the ‘ROC” Center for adults which include intake, outreach visits, telephone lethality monitoring, linkage, and follow-up peer support services where applicable.
· Assist CMT’s in the assessment for the need for involuntary transport by Law Enforcement to the local Title 36 Contracted Agency.
· Provide short term peer support services to include de-escalation, safety planning, behavior modification, skills training and short-term coordination of individualized services specific to family needs.
· Collaborate and work effectively with partner agencies to develop appropriate service provisions for identified families.
· Demonstrate ability to complete all required charting, casework, documentation, and other computer entry, on a timely basis.
· Maintain a working knowledge of the mental health, developmentally disabled, social service and wrap system in assigned County to provide appropriate referral and linkage for members served.
· Able to identify and address the Social Determinants of Health needs of the members served.
· Demonstrate knowledge to instill hope in service recipients during their crisis through the modelling of effective coping techniques, self-help strategies and the sharing of personal lived experience in recovery.
· Maintain and increase skills in the field through trainings in the agency and/or the community.
· Assist in ensuring that members engaged by the crisis teams receive follow-up supports as needed.
· Maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License and have access to a usable vehicle.
· Work as a team member to provide safe/positive work environment for members, staff, and the public.
· Provide engagement and re-engagement of participants via telephone and in-person contacts when needed.
· Excellent communication skills, including ability to respond to callers/members with patience, objectivity and a nonjudgmental attitude.
· Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
· Knowledge of or ability to learn about community resources and agency services.
· Ability to work well in a team, good interpersonal skills, and positive attitude.
· Ability to follow clinical and office protocols and procedures.
· Ability to multi-task and computer literate
Qualifications Preferred:
· Bilingual – English/Spanish
· Experience working in the field or combined field specific education and experience totaling 4 years of experience.
· Advance knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity
