Position Summary
Columbia World Projects (CWP) mobilizes researchers and scholars to work with governments, organizations, businesses and communities to tackle global challenges. CWP seeks a full time data analyst/researcher to contribute to an exciting project on household energy use in Ghana. The Combating Household Air Pollution (CHAP) project aims to support the transition of households away from polluting forms of household energy (primarily biomass) toward cleaner, modern energy sources. CWP is seeking a highly motivated data analyst to provide analytical and technical support for the CHAP project. The Data Analyst will be working with the CHAP team which is led by Dr. Darby Jack at Columbia University, Dr. Kelsey Jack at University of California, Santa Barbara and Dr. KP Asante at the Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana.

Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to, providing data science support to the international CHAP project with primary data collected from a 2021-22 LPG Demand Assessment and other regional energy use datasets; managing high frequency sensor-based data sets on pollution concentrations and exposure; exploring research questions using the CHAP data and other public use and bespoke datasets; and developing impactful data visualizations of research findings for both scientific and general audiences.
The successful candidate will have strong quantitative and coding skills, a creative and solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to effectively communicate scientific results to stakeholders, scientists, and policymakers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in data science, statistics, computer science, economics, environmental science and management, or a related field at time of appointment with 2-3 years of experience providing analytical research support to projects related to economic evaluation, data exploration and visualization. A Master’s degree in similar fields with 1 year of related experience will also suffice.
- Excellent quantitative and statistical skills including experience collecting, processing, and analyzing survey data, and/or economic data.
- Coding skills and proficiency with statistical programming tools (R preferred, but Matlab, Stata and/or Python are viable too), and experience working with GitHub or other version control systems.
- Experience with data management and the creation of data archives.
- Interest in data exploration and visualization.
- Ability to synthesize and communicate scientific results to a variety of partners and stakeholders.
- Excellent creative problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative, self-manage, and work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent computer skills including fluency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive suites.
