The International Slavery Museum / Maritime Museum Project is an exciting development for National Museums Liverpool (NML) which will play a significant role in the overall 10-year masterplan to reimagine the iconic Liverpool Waterfront site. In the next two years we will work with our communities to reimagine and reinterpret the collections for both museums, creating new galleries and new ways to discuss our collections and the city’s history. It will link storytelling, heritage, community and hospitality to create a rich visitor experience and will be a catalyst for social and environmental improvements in the area.

Liverpool’s waterfront is an historically significant site, filled with many stories and histories including its pivotal role in the transatlantic slave trade. There has never been greater public demand or a more pertinent need to understand this heritage and discuss its legacies.

This project is moving forward with generous support of £9.9million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund with thanks to National Lottery players in addition to the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Working with the Digital Content Lead, you will develop and produce an assortment of high-quality, impactful and engaging content across the multimedia mix (articles, video, photo, audio etc.) to effectively communicate and engage audiences and wider stakeholders with project progress, participation and engagement opportunities as well as the long-term impact of this once in a lifetime transformation project.
