The School of Architecture and Design at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) invites applications for the position of Digital Technology Specialist. Based on Long Island, the position will be serving the Long Island (Old Westbury) campus location.
- Reporting to the Director of Digital Technologies and Fabrication this position will serve as a primary technician in the state-of-the-art digital fabrication shop in Long Island.
- Collaborate with NYIT faculty and administrators and assist in, installing, maintaining, and continually improving equipment
- Implement operation procedures (OP) and Machine Safety Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Train and supervise student staff in the interest of advancing a culture of experimental making.
- Researching and experimenting with the capabilities of digital tools, and various other methods.
- Manage online queue of student printing and cutting submissions for staff run equipment.
- Organize software & hardware updates as needed.
- Organize equipment use demonstrations and orientations for students and faculty.
- Create clear, accurate, user-friendly documentation/tutorials for all equipment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in architecture or a related field and experience in fabrication in an academic and/or professional setting.
- Experience preferred in operating three or more of the following digital fabrication systems: Robots, 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, and vacuum forming.
- Experience with CAD/CAM programming; Rhino, Grasshopper, Autocad, Adobe Illustrator.
- Experience using, installing, and maintaining software for 3D modeling, CNC, and/or Arduino systems is also beneficial.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to lift heavy equipment and materials.
- Flexible schedule with ability to work nights and weekends.
- Ability to assist students working in an interdisciplinary manner from concept to fabrication.
