Position Summary

The Director of Horticulture is responsible for providing a world-class, resident and visitor experience by establishing and maintaining exceptional professional standards for the horticultural care, display, and interpretation of Southern Land Company's multifamily communities across the nation. The Director must have both the vision to achieve an innovative horticulture program as well as the hands-on skills to ensure execution with a focus on enriching the appearance of our unique and extraordinary environments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Must be prompt, reliable and dependable with work schedule.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform daily equipment lubrication as per operator’s manual.
  • Complete required paperwork including Operators Daily Report.
  • Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
  • Frequently work long and unusual hours.
  • Communicate with Shop mechanic, Foreman and peers concerning equipment.
  • Meet performance and technical standards required to qualify for Level 1 position.
  • Must be able to ask questions if you do not understand task or how to do a task safely.
  • Follow all company safety policies.
  • Ensure all duties are performed safely.
  • Look out for fellow employees and never be afraid to inform supervisor of potential safety hazards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Travel required; willing to work some nights and weekends

Required Education and Experience

  • 5-10 years of horticulture management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, Botany, Business Management or related field
