Job description
The primary purpose of your job position is to direct the day-to-day nursing functions of the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern long-term care facilities and in accordance with the policies and procedures specified for the operation of the facility to assure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to all patients / residents at all times.
Administrative Functions
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility's nursing programs and activities.
- Guide staffing procedures
- Set objectives and long-term goals for the nursing department
- Control budgets and monitor expenditures
- Resolve issues and deficiencies when needed
- Develop and review the facility's nursing policies and procedures periodically, at least annually or as necessary, and draft changes to assure continued compliance with current regulations (e.g., ADA, ergonomics, air quality, etc.) or to reflect possible new facility organization or processes.
- Assume the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the nursing activities and programs of the facility.
- Represent the facility at and participate in nursing meetings relevant to the long-term care industry and report such activities to the Administrator.
- Assist the Administrator in making written and oral reports/recommendations to the governing board concerning the nursing operation of the facility.
- Assist the Infection Control Coordinator, and/or Committee, in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.
- As a director of nursing, you will oversee committee functions, personnel functions, staff development, safety and sanitation, equipment ans supply function, budget and planning functions, resident rights and other miscellaneous.

- Proven experience as director of nursing
- In-depth knowledge of hospital procedures
- Understanding of basic budgeting and financial reporting
- Great knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare
- Excellent ability to lead and develop personnel
- Great communication and people skills
- Outstanding organizational and stress management skills
- Aptitude in problem-solving
- Valid nursing and CPR certification
