Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59.800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

About the Job:

Incumbent is a highly responsible administrator with the Indiana Department of Correction. Incumbent is responsible for directing the Department’s Physical Health Services and Contract Compliance. Reports directly to the Executive Director of Physical Health. The position requires communication., collaboration, and teamwork with other healthcare team leadership to provide a multidisciplinary approach to overseeing patient care. Promotes a culture that is inclusive, culturally responsive, accessible, creative, cooperative, and focused on improving physical health outcomes. Fosters a culturally responsive environment that is inclusive and accepting of all staff and incarcerated individuals to positively contribute to the mission of the agency.

A Day in the Life:

  • Works and communicates on a regular basis with the QAMs to address processes within the facility healthcare units.
  • Develops, plans, directs, evaluates, tracks and standardizes service/care directives for incarcerated individuals with physical health needs and reviews these on a regular basis with the QAMs.
  • Monitors physical health aspects of contractual services and acts as liaison with appropriate health services vendor staff to determine adequacy and appropriateness of service delivery.
  • Monitors and manage< along with the Executive Director of Physical Health, the Critical Clinical Incident Reviews
  • Works independently with the appropriate health services vendor staff to improve physical health care outcomes of the incarcerated population, adults, and juveniles.
  • Designs, implements, reviews, and revises physical health treatment procedures, protocols, and health care service directives under the direction of the Executive Director of Physical Health. .
  • Coordinates service delivery with other clinical services, including behavioral health care, data and analytics, and transitional healthcare, to assure integrated approaches to the treatment of incarcerated individuals.
  • Assists in identifying and resolving interdisciplinary issues between operations including behavioral health care, transitional health care, and other state agencies and communicates issues with the QAMs
  • Identifies staff training needs and ensures appropriate training is offered.
  • Successfully completes all required workshops and training.
  • Develops, interprets, and reviews departmental policies/procedures which impact assigned areas of responsibilities.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Develops and updates health care service directives and quality assurance measures for assigned areas under direction of the Executive Director of Physical Health.
  • Designs programs/processes for identifying areas of concern and performing clinical reviews.
  • Serves as liaison with internal and external stakeholders to collect, share and develop pertinent information related to services for incarcerated individuals with physical health needs.
  • Assures applicable rules, regulations, policies/procedures, and standards are met throughout the Physical Health Care treatment programs.
  • Responsible for incarcerated individual correspondence regarding Physical health treatment issues and complaints in coordination with the Executive Director of Physical Health and Contract Compliance, if needed.
  • Assists with oversight and education to the quality assurance managers in coordination with the Medical Operations Administrator.
  • Coordinates with the contracted medical vendor and IDOC Classification leadership to streamline physical health transfers, when indicated
  • Network with community resources to continue to improve the level of physical health services within the IDOC.
  • Assists the transitional healthcare team with discharge planning, inpatient, and outpatient commitments and other referrals which may be necessary to maintain continuity of care;
  • Works with health services vendor vendor and complete clinical reviews

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred, RN licensure in good standing is required,
  • Strong communication skills are an asset, given the need to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and leaders to include patients, families, employees, contracted medical vendor, state agency colleagues and other agency staff
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of physical health care and administrative practices
  • Considerable knowledge of available state/community resources
  • Ability to work independently and to foresee, identify real and potential problems, advise leadership as required, and propose effective and strategic resolutions.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance, coach, and develop skill sets
  • Demonstrated skill in program planning, management, supervision, and performance management
  • Demonstrated skill to exercise initiative and judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direct a diverse staff
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Executive Director of Physical Health and other clinical providers, operations, parole services, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to travel and conduct business within facilities, including secured areas
  • Ability to testify in front of judicial/governmental hearings
  • Ability to stay abreast of new developments in correctional physical health care
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to abide by the Department’s Standard of Conduct and all behavioral expectations
