Job Functions:

This director position is uniquely tailored for the ongoing commitment of Metropolitan Ministries to uphold its faith-based roots while integrating the ever-changing and diverse population we serve. The Director will implement strategies to integrate spiritual care into the organization’s mission, vision, and guiding values. As Director of Spiritual Care, they will work with leadership and the staff team to integrate spiritual care into both client and staff programs. The Director will engage the community’s support in delivering chaplaincy and spiritual support on and off campus. This critical position will primarily support the organization’s values and beliefs in the power of God’s love in healing broken lives and building strong, caring communities. An emphasis on serving clients and staff of all faith backgrounds with inclusivity and respect will be expected.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage MM’s spiritual care programs, ensure current programs are mission-aligned, identify areas of improvement, implement new programs, establish program work procedures, ensure programs are communicated to the internal team, staff, clients, volunteers& partners.
  • Provide a spiritual link to all residents to create a culturally relevant and inclusive expression of faith and hope.
  • Create meaningful measurements and track outcomes associated with Spiritual Care for clients and staff alike.
  • Identify client needs, design programming, and engage community partners to support clients in identified spiritual care needs.
  • Develop our chaplaincy program for client specific needs aligned with Sanctuary Trauma Informed Care.
  • Hire, train and supervise Spiritual Care staff, interns, volunteers, and young adult missionaries.
  • Work with the Program Directors and Client Care team to determine on-going needs for spiritual care of residents.
  • Develop faith community relationships and works with local congregations, clergy, and universities to recruit chaplains to help shape our spiritual care programs on and off both the E and W Pasco and Tampa campuses.
  • Develop and lead spiritual care for the holiday tents on all campuses.
  • Work with Human Resources to create guidelines and policies for staff care.
  • Oversee our chaplaincy program for workplace spiritual care for staff.
  • In cooperation with the Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, et al., represents Metropolitan Ministries in various civic, business, and faith groups, identifying prospective collaborative partners, donors, and volunteers.
  • Meet personal goals and actively contribute to the achievement of the team and organizational targets/goals, KPIs in the annual plan. Support the team in other tasks as assigned. Support the holiday center operation as directed.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in ministry, Human Services, Social Work, or related field required. Master’s Degree and ordination strongly preferred. A minimum of five years’ experience working as a spiritual leader or pastor are required. Additional experience in chaplaincy programs, program administration, organizational leadership, or combination thereof preferred.

Skill Requirements:

Must be able to work effectively with homeless and at-risk clients. This position requires the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary framework; should be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Must be able to communicate orally, as well as in writing, and demonstrate a high level of comfort in this performance, conducting and assisting in the conducting of meetings, etc. Strong interpersonal skills are required. This position requires a high degree of maturity, sensitivity to issues of faith and cross cultural and diversity issues, and the social skill to handle job-related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner.

Physical Requirements:

Must have adequate hearing and speaking ability to take part in and provide sound oral communication and information. Must be capable of working outdoors in sunlight and higher temperatures on occasion. Must have the physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.

Other:

Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Valid FL driver's license with a good driving record and insured vehicle in order to transport self and clients when necessary.
