The School of Design is searching for an Inaugural Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Enrollment. This is a new exciting opportunity for someone with academic recruitment and admissions experience and a passion for design! This position will be responsible for recruiting talented and diverse applicants, as well as leading all aspects of the School of Design undergraduate admission process, working closely with the Design Admission Committee and Carnegie Mellon’s Office of Undergraduate Admission.
Core responsibilities include:
  • Leading strategic recruitment planning efforts to achieve a diverse applicant pool that includes under-resourced and low-yielding underrepresented BIPOC students
  • Giving proper consideration for students who are identified as under-resourced (defined by university admission as many complex and often related factors that may include: race or ethnicity; lower socioeconomic standing; lower-income households; students with limited resources at home, in school or in their community; being the first in their family to attend college
  • Creating and managing public admissions communications including recruitment materials, and advertising in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Manager of the school and university
  • Identifying, attending, and representing the School of Design at various virtual and in-person recruitment fairs and conferences throughout the year
  • Managing campus and virtual visits for prospective students and their parents
  • Speaking to groups of prospective students throughout the year
  • Training and supervising School of Design student tour guides
  • Managing Slideroom, portfolio submissions, and faculty applicant reviews
  • Managing and maintaining admission data and materials
  • Working closely with the university Office of Undergraduate Admission on the processing and admitting of applicants
  • Responding to applicant and parent admission inquiries
  • Participating in admission and scholarship decisions
  • Staying informed of curriculum changes that may impact recruitment

You should demonstrate:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years recruitment/enrollment experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Requirements:
  • Successful background check, including Act 153 clearances
  • Domestic travel required
