New Earth is a dynamic youth-serving organization located in Culver City, CA. We work with at-promise youth throughout Los Angeles County – specializing in providing individualized care to those with a history of justice system or foster care involvement ages 12-25. New Earth offers programs and services that result in individual transformation and a reduction in barriers and risk factors. Among our innovative and outcomes-oriented programming is our workforce development program, which merges youth development work with several emerging social enterprises.

New Earth is seeking a Director of Workforce Innovation. This is a senior level position responsible for our growing social enterprises and workforce development programs. The position is a combination of both tactical day-to-day business management and leadership/workforce training for our young transitional employees. The ideal candidate brings their keen business development focus to grow and expand the businesses through partnerships within the non-profit, government, and for-profit communities while creating jobs for both New Earth members and alumni youth. The Director of Workforce Innovation keeps their ear to the ground, engages with community leaders, activists and the business community while continuously striving to make New Earth an innovative and effective place for youth to work. This role also works closely with New Earth’s leadership team to make sure all our programs are working cohesively – ultimately providing increased opportunities for our young people.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Operational management of New Earth’s vocational program staff, LA: RISE participants and

day-to-day operations of the workforce programs and social enterprises.

  • Oversees Workforce Program Manager, Business Developer and Career Coaches
  • Develops processes and protocols to ensure outcomes are achieved and are aligned with the

New Earth mission.

  • Manages outcomes and contracts of all workforce grants and contracts including LA Rise, DOL,

WDACS and Cal CRG

  • Continuously seeks out new funding opportunities and contracts within the workforce, social

enterprise, or youth development space

  • Oversees hiring, workforce development training and retention of New Earth vocational staff
  • Oversees scheduling, time and attendance and payroll for social enterprise staff
  • Builds programming and structure for transitional and permanent employment at the Social

Enterprises

  • Oversees Job Skills Readiness curriculum development and training for youth that leads to

optimal outcomes, job placement, and job retention rates for our youth

  • Oversees data collection for all vocational programs and social enterprises to ensure that

outcomes are meeting contractual and organizational expectations

  • Attends all leadership and workforce related meetings internally and externally
  • Involved in advocacy at the local, state., and national level as a stand-alone workforce program

or in partnership with REDF, Youthbuild USA and others who are already in this space

  • Responsible for developing a youth advocacy team that supports this endeavor.
  • Builds and nurtures relationships with the Culver City Chamber of Commerce, the LA Chamber

of Commerce, and other Chambers to secure opportunities for our youth and partnership opportunities for the organization

  • Creates, grows and scales New Earth Digital, securing additional tech training partners and employer partners
  • Speaks publicly on behalf of the Workforce Program as a thought leader and industry expert on youth employment
  • Develops an Employer Advisory Council (EAC) comprised of local businesses that commit the ongoing hiring of our youth
  • Develops a training and certification program for the EAC
  • Develops a three -year business plan and budget for each social enterprise business, and year

to-year operating plans that achieves the business plan objectives

  • Strong focus on the development of partnerships to grow both businesses, and management of

of those tactical and strategic partnerships

  • Manages relationship with local Worksource Centers
  • Strategically leverages federal dollars like WIOA and other funding to help leverage the wages

and training costs of transitional employment staff.

  • Manages relationships with REDF and EWDD
  • Works with Co-Founder to re-ignite the development of new digital training platform that will

achieve better outcomes for the New Earth youth workforce and drive the generation of

unrestricted revenue for the organization. Supports the distribution and sale of this proprietary

training model to partners, government agencies and CBO’s who are focused on youth

development

  • Involved with all REDF and Youthbuild USA initiatives in the workforce development space
  • Follows new opportunities in funding, training, and legislation with a keen eye on how they can

benefit the organization and its young people.

  • Works in conjunction with programming staff to provide an environment that supports a high level of youth achievement that leads to positive outcome


Qualifications

  • Proven leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated achievements in growing

business and development of strong partnerships

  • Excellent communicator, with strong people management and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated P&L management experience.
  • Experience in the technology and digital space a plus
  • Possesses an entrepreneurial, “can-do” spirit with a growth mindset
  • Dedicated to social justice and thrives in a dynamic and fast paced matrixed organization.
  • Takes a creative and innovative approach, and unafraid of taking “controlled risk”.
  • Proven track record of skills in the details of day-to-day business management while at

the same time is a strategic thinker and business innovator.

  • At least 5-10 years of business experience with demonstrated success
  • MBA Preferred or Bachelor’s in Non-Profit Management or similar field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience preferably in social enterprise or social impact sector.
  • Experience working with at-risk or juvenile justice system involved youth a plus.
  • Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to social justice and the organization’s mission.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and power point. Easily

adapts to and learns new technology platforms as needed.

  • Displays knowledge of Social Media platforms and experience in them.
  • Photography and or film experience and knowledge of camera aesthetics a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups of 10+ and major projects

or initiatives.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse

workplace.

  • Excels at operating in a fast paced, multi-tasking community environment.
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaborative work style and

commitment to get the job done.
