District Technician / Equipment Operator
Job description
South McLean County Soil Conservation District in Turtle Lake, ND has a unique and exciting job opportunity just waiting for the right person to come aboard.
We are currently seeking a hardworking, dependable, and customer-service focused District Technician/Equipment Operator to work as part of our conservation team.
Here are just a few things the job entails:
- Working with customers in our District to develop tree plantings plans using a CPA-4. You’ll work with customers to determine the soil type where the trees will be planted and determine which trees are suitable for that soil type using Web Soil Survey. Much of this is done over the computer and don’t worry, this is something we can teach you!
- Planting trees and laying weed barrier fabric for customers. We plant a variety of conservation grade trees with a “Trees R Us” tree planter that is pulled behind a John Deere tractor. This operation takes an Equipment Operator and a crew of two riding in the planter planting the trees.
- Assist the District Manager in overseeing our “tree crew” keeping them motivated and busy with daily work tasks and ensuring they are practicing safe work habits.
- Conducting routine maintenance and working through any equipment issues as they come up, requires mechanical experience.
- Working with customers in our District to plant grass and cover crop seed using our John Deere tractor or Rental Tractor and our Truax or Great Plains Drills.
- Working with our District Manager on public outreach and educational programs.
- This is not the full job description but just a snip of what the District Technician/Equipment Operator’s day looks like.
To be a member of our fantastic team, here’s what you’ll need to have…
- Previous experience operating agricultural equipment. This is a must!
- Must be detail-oriented documenting activities both timely and thoroughly so our customers can be billed accordingly.
- Must have a strong focus on customer service – keeping the customer’s satisfaction at the forefront of decisions (because without our customers where would we be?)
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills and a strong self motivated work ethic are a must.
- Believes in working with a strong focus on safety to ensure you are safe and our team members are safe.
- Takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized work area, including caring for all shop tools, machines and equipment.
- Can think outside of the box to solve sometimes complex problems.
- Computer literate and can navigate through the Internet, e-mail, Microsoft Excel and can learn new computer programs.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills and a strong work ethic are a must.
- Must have a valid North Dakota Driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a background check through Homeland Security and Pre-Employment drug screening.
