Title:

Electro-Mechanical Engineer

KBR has an exciting opportunity for an Electro-Mechanical Engineer. This position will be located at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The Electro-Mechanical Engineer will work on the design and development of mechanisms in support of space flight missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers, analysts, and technicians to create and advance the design of electromechanical systems such as robot actuators, precision instrument mechanisms and fluid handling devices, as well as associated electronic control systems and support equipment
  • Perform design and analysis of electromechanical and electronic components including actuators, bearings, gears, electronic assemblies, and connectors / harnesses
  • Conduct development testing to verify and improve performance
  • Create work instructions and support the assembly and test of flight mechanisms, as well as the integration to spacecraft and instruments
  • Present your work to stakeholders in peer and formal design reviews

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • Development, manufacturing / assembly and test of electromechanical systems and control electronics
  • Component design and assembly management using 3-D CAD software
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with common space industry materials (metallic and composite), processes, mechanical components (actuators, bearings, gears, fasteners), connectors, wiring, etc.


Preferred Education, Experience & Skills:

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Knowledgeable in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as NASTRAN and FEMAP

Computer analysis and automation tools such as MATLAB / Simulink, LabView, Python etc.

Proficiency in the use of basic test electronics equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and multimeters
