About Us:

For more than 50 years, Gowanda Electronics has been a leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of precision electronic components for RF, microwave, and power applications. Components include standard off-the-shelf and custom-designed inductors, chips, chokes, coils, conicals, toroids, transformers, and magnetic devices in surface mount and axial-leaded (thru-hole) configurations that are used in a wide variety of electronic applications around the world. The company offers RoHS-compliant products as well as lead-containing components for QPL military/defense and other demanding requirements. Non-magnetic inductors are also available for situations where magnetic components would compromise system performance, as in medical imaging (MRI) equipment.

About the Position:

Reporting to the division president, the Director of Engineering (DOE) provides technical leadership, vision, and mentorship to a talented multi-disciplinary engineering team. This position is responsible for the complete product life cycle, from marketing and customer directed ideation to launch, and everything in between. As the Director of Engineering, you will head current and next generation product development for the Gowanda Electronics Division.

The DOE will drive innovation and demonstrated business and strategic acumen through the development and leadership of an engineering team, as well as the execution of the technology roadmap for the business. The DOE will work closely with the operations, sales and quality organizations to drive execution to the business plan and achieve the common business goals.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and manage engineering activities, goals, and targets for the business unit within budget for all product engineering functions.
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership to the entire engineering organization. Setting, implementing, and maintaining standards for design engineering and new product introduction.
  • Be a subject matter expert while providing decisive and effective technical leadership to the organization.
  • Conduct product and market research, keeping up with the latest industry trends and information.
  • Oversee all aspects of product and process design, managing the work plans for all product creation and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Provide training to direct and indirect reports as required to enhance departmental performance and proactively promote professional development. Mentor team members by recognizing talents, matching talents and tasks, accommodating people growth, etc.
  • Drive process improvements through the use of industrial best practices (Process characterization, APQP, Design of Experiments, Reliability Testing etc.)
  • Strategically and tactically work with customers to develop and deepen knowledge or current needs as well as direction of future product and business opportunities.
  • Develop and implement a technology roadmap for product and process development, including but not limited, automation and product / process design & development tools.
  • Create, manage, and execute a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Strategy that elevates the organization product portfolio.
  • Work closely with Operations and Sales, during new product launches including process, supply chain, and product improvements.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Engineering from an accredited college or university; and 5 to 10 years of related work experience.


Experience:

  • 5-10 years of Project Management (PMI preferred)


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent team-building and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Technical competencies in component design, technology development (process and automation), operations and manufacturing engineering.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
