Position Title: Environmental Scientist I ‐ II Starting Salary: Up to $50,000 DOQ

Job Location: Headquarters ‐ Midway, FL Located 10 miles west of Tallahassee on Hwy. 90

Minimum Qualifications:
Level I: A bachelor's degree in natural sciences, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, geography, or a closely related discipline and one year of responsible experience in these fields; or a master's degree in one of these fields. Knowledge of relevant state laws and programs related to water resource planning. Ability to perform technical research, review and report development.
Experience in the use and application of GIS, word processing, spreadsheet, and other common office software. Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Level II: A bachelor's degree in natural sciences, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, geography, or a closely related discipline and three years of responsible experience in these fields; a master's degree or Ph.D. in one of these fields can substitute for one or two years of experience respectively. Knowledge of relevant state laws and programs related to water resource planning.

Special Abilities:
Effective communication with biologists, ecologists, geologists, engineers, and planners is integral to this position. Background and experience with wetland and aquatic ecology and knowledge of and/or experience with flora and fauna of northwest Florida, wetland restoration, wetland evaluation, water chemistry/quality analyses, Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) permitting, Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM), geographic information systems, statistical analyses, environmental monitoring, environmental surveys and evaluations, and a working knowledge of watersheds and ecosystems are preferred.

Description of Position:
This is a full time professional interdisciplinary position with the purpose of preserving, protecting and restoring the environmental quality of the District's water resources with emphasis in wetlands, aquatic habitats, and watershed resources.

• Conducts project management in support of the environmental, biological, restoration, monitoring, program development, and planning activities and programs of the District.
• Participates in the technical implementation of the Regional Mitigation Plan and In‐Lieu Fee Mitigation program, Surface

Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Program, Minimum Flows and Levels, water supply planning, and associated programs and activities.

• Participates in the preparation and review of proposals, work plans, permit applications, restoration plans, monitoring plans, and requests for proposals/qualifications.
• Functions as a project manager for selected projects and supervises staff and contractors.
• Develops and provides written reports and oral presentations on results of environmental studies, restoration, monitoring, and compliance with any associated project permit conditions.
• Makes presentations to the public, government agencies, and the District’s Governing Board.
• Promotes teamwork across divisions, bureaus, and programs and provides superior customer service to the citizens of Florida.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
