This position is specific to the Fostering Educational Success (FES) program. FES is a grant-supported research study in collaboration with the Oregon Research Institute and University of Nebraska Medical Center that provides educational support for elementary through secondary students who are exiting foster care into their permanency placement. The purpose of this study is to determine if FES can improve targeted educational and family outcomes for youth transitioning to permanency when compared to those who do not receive FES. The role of the family advocate and educational support worker, known as a “Family Coach,” is to deliver services to youths and their families and to participate in research evaluation.
The Family Coach will:
- Provide education-targeted support to youth and families during the transition to permanency. This includes: increasing academic engagement through developing homework routines, academic self-monitoring strategies, and organizational skills promoting school connectedness by implementing Check & Connect, assisting with IEP/504’s, exploring post-secondary work and educational opportunities, and encouraging youth community involvement.
- Deliver the Strengthening Families Program.
- Serve as an advocate and guide for the student and caregivers, a liaison between the home and school, and a resource for educators and school professionals as an expert in working with systems-involved youth.
- Recruit and enroll eligible referrals for participation in the FES program.
- Ensure all required FES documentation (to include assessments, data collection, weekly supervision reports, and incident reports) is completed and filed accurately and on time.
- Be responsible professionals who take accountability for their work through asking questions, accepting feedback, and a demonstrated commitment to growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, human services, or a related field is PREFERRED.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance is required
Experience:
- Two or more years of work experience with children, families, schools, and the child welfare system is required.
- Provision, management, implementation or other exposure to Evidence-Based Practices is preferred.
- Provision of services that were: home-based and/or with marginalized populations is preferred.
