Description:
The Village of Glenview, located in northeast Illinois, is seeking a part-time fire inspector. The purpose of this position is to enforce the compliance of all fire and life safety municipal codes, to decrease the risks of fire, hazards and conditions detrimental to life or health and to educate the public on fire safety. This is accomplished by conducting inspections and re-inspections of all occupancies, conducting inspections during various phases of new construction, reviewing construction and life safety system plans, and investigating and mediating complaints of hazardous conditions. Additional duties include completing reports, maintaining files and entering data, testifying in court if required, and meeting with business owners, builders, contractors and vendors.
Qualifications:
An associate’s degree or equivalent and knowledge of fire prevention codes and systems, construction plans and blueprints, and fire safety programs, excellent written & oral communication skills, and computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel are required. A minimum of one to three years of experience in fire prevention are preferred. Must receive ICC or OFSM (fire inspector 1) certification within the first six (6) months of employment. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. For external candidates, any offer is contingent upon the candidate’s successful completion of a background check, medical, and drug screening.
Salary & Schedule:
This position is typically required to work part-time during the hours Village Hall is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., based on operational needs, and an average of 18 hours/week (external candidates) and 12 hours/week (internal candidates).
