Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The fitness coordinator manages student employees and develops fitness operations and programs. This position will develop University of South Carolina students to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful beyond the classroom experiences.
Primary duties include:

- Manage the development, coordination, and administration of fitness programs while assisting onsite management at campus recreation facilities.
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise approximately 100 fitness student employees. Design & facilitate training sessions, provide leadership training and development, and maintain records of employee training and certification.
- Assist in risk management standards for all fitness programs and services.
- Assist in fiscal oversight of a budget over $200,000.
- Develop, market, and implement strategic plans, priorities, and goals that increase quality of fitness exercise programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Must possess a current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification or acquire within 90 days of hire date.
This position requires a variable work schedule. Early mornings, evening & weekend hours will be required. In addition, this position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. This position will also support the University’s mission and goals through participating in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate, for prospective and current students.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Facility Management, Student Services Experience or related field, 1 year related experience.
Current applicable fitness certification(s) (Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Training or Strength and Conditioning) from a recognized/accredited national organizations (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience in student supervision and fitness programming organization, as well as the ability to instruct a variety of fitness programs.
