Job Description

An ideal candidate will have previous machining experience; and the capability to operate most “conventional” tool room equipment, including, but not limited to, lathes, mills and surface grinders. An ability or willingness to learn to assemble and disassemble all types of dies is imperative. Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce components for die construction for the plastic extrusion industry. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Set up and machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or surface grinders.

- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators and calipers.

- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.

- Ability to use power file to fine tune die to achieve an extruded part in tolerance from new die is preferred but not needed.

- Ability to use acetylene torch to clean dies for future use after each production run.

- Select the appropriate tools and machines to be used in machining of new dies and sizers from provided blueprints.

- Confer with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.

- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.

- Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.

- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.

- Evaluate experimental procedures, and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.

- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process, verifying operational efficiency.

- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in machining of new dies and sizers from provided blueprints.

- Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines.

- Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.

- Install repaired parts into equipment, or install new equipment.

- Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition and/or fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.

- Position, fasten and check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled.

- Able to study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

- Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics.

- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

- Set up or operate metalworking, welding, or cutting equipment.

- Separate scrap/waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal; dispose of scrap/waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

- High School diploma or GED, preferred but not mandatory

- previous experience using conventional mills, lathes and surface grinders a plus.

- Ability to weld and run an EDM a plus.

- Must have your own tools.

Salary: commensurate with experience
