Functions Associate – Langdon House and Hamilton House
Job description
Historic New England is seeking a personable, outgoing, and detail-attentive Functions Associate responsible for supervising functions for Historic New England’s Langdon House and Hamilton House.
Classification: Part-time/Seasonal; non-exempt; minimum 9 hours/week
Location: Langdon House, Portsmouth, N.H., and Hamilton House, South Berwick, Maine
Key Roles and Responsibilities: The Functions Associate is responsible for the following primary functions and other duties as assigned:
- Perform daily open/close procedures; supervise and monitor functions, including pre-function setup, client arrival, vendor arrival, guest arrival, vendor/guest activity, event timeline management and timeline execution, guest departure, and vendor departure; ensure vendors and guests are working within Historic New England’s site requirements, rules, and regulations
- Assist with event set-up and breakdown; including, but not limited to, setting up and packing up: client decor, tables, and chairs in appropriate locations, when applicable
- Activate/de-activate security system and monitors museum property for any damages, changes in structures, collections, or security
- Perform light housekeeping duties and other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proof of full vaccination from COVID-19
- Ability and desire to work with the public with the highest standards for customer service
- Requires exceptional tact, diplomacy, personal presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task, and work well under stress/pressure while remaining calm and focused
- Requires strong organizational and verbal communication skills
- Due to the scheduling nature of events, a high level of flexibility is required, including nights, weekends, and weekdays
- Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent education
- One year of job-related experience
- Requires strong verbal communication skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree; prior experience in hospitality and/or customer service
As typically performed, this position regularly involves talking, hearing, smelling, sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. This position involves lifting up to 50 pounds. The position also requires constantly reading documents for general understanding.
