FY24 - Computer Information Systems (CIS) Instructor

Full-Time, Tenure Track C Basis

East Los Angeles College (ELAC) is accepting applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract position in the COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS (CIS) discipline within the Business Administration Department. This assignment also includes ongoing curriculum program development, college committee participation, departmental duties, and the pursuit of professional development as necessary for staying current in the CIS profession. This position begins Fall 2023.


Instructional assignments may include teaching at off-campus locations; day, evening, weekend, and online classes; and/or non-traditionally scheduled classes. The faculty member must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and its students. Course scheduling may incorporate a variety of courses, and the faculty member should be prepared to teach the full range of discipline courses, which include but are not limited to: introduction to computers and their uses, databases, web development, cyber security, cloud computing, computer networking, PC maintenance, and troubleshooting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment; OR
  • Associate's degree and six years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment.

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability and willingness to adjust teaching to meet the needs of East Los Angeles College students
  • Knowledge and competency in online instruction and willingness to participate in POCR process
  • A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students in the community college setting
  • Willingness to accept and lead department-wide and the College-wide initiatives
  • Availability to work at off-site locations such as the South Gate Educational Center


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

The candidate will provide instruction in a variety of CIS discipline courses, including introduction to computers and their uses, databases, web development, cyber security, cloud computing, computer networking, PC maintenance, and troubleshooting, among others. In addition, the candidate will have the following additional responsibilities:

  • Participate in college committees, faculty meetings, and department activities as assigned
  • Maintain scheduled office and campus hours
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities
  • Assist in curriculum development and participate in the process of curriculum changes, course outlines, and new courses
  • Participate in the development and assessment of Course and Program Learning Outcomes
  • Utilize the results of learning outcome assessments to improve instructional and instructional support programs, teaching and student learning
  • Participate and contribute to grant applications, reports, catalogues, and promotional materials
  • Carry a fair share of other departmental duties, including, but not limited to, community outreach, recruitment, and program planning
  • Plan and organize instructional materials toward course objectives
  • Maintain accurate academic records according to college policies and procedures
  • Maintain professional and ethical academic standards

SALARY:

The current starting range (based on pay scale 2022-23) is from $66,220 to $103,100 for the 10-month academic year depending on education and experience. The Doctoral differential is $4,180 per academic year. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

  • A college selection committee will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined from the application package and recommendations from referents.
  • Selected candidates will be invited for an interview and a classroom teaching demonstration.
  • Based upon the committee's recommendation, finalists will interview with the President and Vice President, who will make the final selection

  • Verification of Experience letters on letterhead stationery; must show inclusive dates of assignments, state if full-time or part-time and indicate duties. SELECTION PROCEDURE:
