Job Title: Grant Accountant and Compliance Officer

Department: Finance

Reports To: Controller

FLSA Status: Exempt


Job Summary:

The Grant Compliance Officer is responsible for coordinating compliance with all grants, federal, state, local and private, ensuring SVdP is in compliance and meeting all deliverables. This includes a thorough understanding of applicable federal regulations and ensuring SVdP policies and activities comply with regulations. The GCO has the ability to communicate requirements and assist affected departments to ensure compliance.


Specific Duties:

Grant Compliance

  • Assists in grant application process by reviewing and commenting on grant opportunities and Grant/Funding Agreements.
  • Develops, modifies and maintains grant/funding agreement related records retention system.
  • Coordinates with staff on executed Grant/Funding Agreements to ensure that requirements are met.
  • Upon agreement execution coordinates as required related accounting, timekeeping and cost management systems.
  • Collaborate with departments to prepare and submit grant billings as required.
  • Oversee approved Grant/Funding Agreements to ensure that all documentation and reporting requirements are met prior to due dates.
  • Prepare and/or review information and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meet with applicable department teams to discuss, instruct and comply with funding requirements
  • Develop and modify policies/procedures/systems in accordance with grant and funding agreements.


  • Prepare monthly accounting entries for grants and contract billing.
  • Main point of contact for grant accounting and reporting.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

  • Volunteer engagement and appreciation, as well as Culture of Philanthropy participation are part of all job descriptions at SVdP, and a very important part of the organizational culture and values

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, advanced degree a plus.
  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years related job experience in nonprofits or public auditing of nonprofits is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of official GAAP accounting principles and A-133 audits is required.
  • Experience with government contracts and billing is required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal government circulars (2 CFR 200).
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal appropriations law and proper use of federal funds, federal contracting and executing procurement in compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and best practices for purchasing in the private sector.
  • Must have a solid technical accounting background with experience in advanced accounting principles
  • Strong general ledger skills.
  • Budget monitoring and grant/program-reporting experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Operational experience with cloud based not for profit accounting systems, including GL, AP. AR, Grant, Budget and Report modules.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to interact comfortably with all levels of staff.
  • High degree of accuracy and timeliness in work.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Deadline orientation required.
  • Proactive individual, accustomed to taking initiative.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time, see, speak, hear, read and write
