About us
The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London, one of the World's leading universities. The Institute draws together over 300 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments to improve outcomes for cancer patients. In particular, it fosters links between basic cancer researchers across Biomedicine, and with the clinical activities of our four partner Hospital trusts, known as UCL Partners: University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) as well as the London School of Pharmacy and Cancer Research UK. Treatment Resistance Team The Treatment Resistance Team, led by Prof Gerhardt Attard, focuses on studying treatment resistance in advanced urological cancers and has been integrating circulating cell-free DNA, tumour tissues and single-cell technologies with functional studies to track tumour clone dynamics in patients progressing through multiple lines of treatment. Some of the group’s work involves collecting biological samples from several trials. STRATOSPHERE consortium (Stratification for rational treatment-oncomarker pairings of STAMPEDE patients starting long-term hormone treatment) has established a framework to enable molecular analyses of archival tissue from these patients. The group receives support from Cancer Research UK, Prostate Cancer UK, the Medical Research Council, the European Union, Prostate Cancer Foundation and others
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Histopathology Technician with knowledge and demonstrable hands-on experience using histopathology techniques such as tissue processing and sectioning, H&E staining and immunohistochemistry. The Histopathology Techniacian will work as part of the small team responsible for supporting the running of STAMPEDE2 trial. A major component of the post will include collecting tissue samples from patients and processing for further analysis to allow patient stratification. The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.
About you
Successful candidates wil have a BSc degree in biological sciences or equivalent expirience, familiarity with current regulatory requirements governing GCP, GCLP and HTA and expierience in Tissue processing and sectioning, H&E staining and immunohistochemistry. Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills are essential as well as working to QMS and in prostate clinical trial environment.
