HOUSING PORTFOLIO COORDINATOR – Job Summary

Under the direction of the Esperanza Community Program Manager, the Housing Portfolio Coordinator is responsible for bolstering and diversifying the number of housing opportunities for shelter residents through outreach, recruitment, and retention of sustainable partnerships with landlords and property management teams. This role is responsible for the oversight and day-to-day coordination of communications with partner properties by helping create healthy and safe communities and ensuring program accountability and compliance. This role will represent The Other Ones Foundation at a systems-level, research best practices to implement new and emerging landlord engagement services, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community partners working to end homelessness.

Job Duties:

  • Engage in long term strategic planning to increase access to units and/or maintain current property management relationships.
  • Identify unique opportunities for potential relationships with various housing providers.
  • Build partnerships and agreements with landlords to establish access to units.
  • Develop and deliver training to landlords, Esperanza Case Management staff, shelter residents, and community partners. Training topics may include, but are not limited to: VAWA protections, how to’s on lease signing and eviction prevention.
  • Research and develop an efficient method for distribution of unit availability lists and/or information sharing platforms to share best practices, landlord openings, and other vital information with Case Management staff.
  • Ensure accountability and program compliance with all HUD requirements by conducting regular reports and analysis of adherence to program policies related to housing of shelter residents.
  • Identify CoC and partner agencies engaged in landlord recruitment activities as well as personnel charged with the same in Travis County, Texas area.
  • Participate in and convene networking and other meetings among CoC partner agencies and their property engagement staff.
  • Develop collaterals that detail the value proposition to landlords, incentives, and best practices or approaches.
  • Roll out landlord incentives, recognition, and other practices selected to improve landlord retention.
  • Develop a working knowledge of public housing agencies such as the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA), the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATCTX), and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA).
  • Attend agency and program staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and community meetings relevant to landlord engagement.
  • Complete detailed, accurate, timely data entry into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and TOOF’s agency database that complies with data integrity and quality standards.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with homelessness and ability to combat stigma and negative preconceived biases;
  • Working knowledge of Austin’s rental housing market and trends;
  • Experience with Google Drive and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc);
  • Proficiency in motivating others and problem solving;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with peers and external partners;
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assignments in an effective manner;
  • Good organizational abilities;
  • Local travel required;
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • High professional standards and dedication to the organization’s mission, vision & values

Education and Experience

● Basic or entry-level knowledge of the housing and/or property management field

● Desire to help end homelessness

● Reliable transportation and active auto insurance

● Clear multi-state criminal history and satisfactory motor vehicle driving record

License and Certifications

● Valid Texas Driver’s License

● Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) trained or able to complete HMIS certification within 30 days of hire

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an indoor environment, although situations arise where client contact may need to be done outdoors. This position will entail engaging with individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, and/or a history of trauma.

● The Housing Portfolio Coordinator may frequent environments in which there is tobacco use

● Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards

● Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards

● Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs.

Salary: $55,000

HOURS

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Some evenings or after hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 + Years’ experience with working with individuals who are experiencing homelessness through Non-profit or State organizations
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License

PREFERRED

  • Texas Real Estate License and/or 2+ years of property management experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English*
