INFECTION PREVENTIONIST RN

Assists the Infection Control/Prevention Director in the promotion and application of infection control measures to prevent and/or control infections among patients and employees.

Facilitates compliance with requirements of Joint Commission, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), Association for Professionals in Infection Prevention and Epidemiology (APIC), and the Department of Public Health.

The Infection Preventionist will assist in the on-going surveillance, data analysis, and reporting of healthcare associated infections utilizing evidence-based national and state guidelines.

Under the guidance of the System Director of Infection Prevention, provides concurrent analytical interpretation of data and investigates outbreaks as necessary, and works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams as needed to develop, implement and assess risk-reduction plans for preventing healthcare associated infections.

In addition to collecting data from specialty areas, and incidences such as devices used in patient care (ventilators, central lines, Foley catheters), MDRO, and epidemiological studies of specific problems, this IP will also conduct concurrent, ongoing surveillance using NHSN/CDC criteria, and will investigate hospital acquired infections through reviewing admission diagnoses, microbiology culture results, patient records, autopsy findings and post- discharge surveillance.

In the absence of the Program Director, represents the department at specified meetings or other events as assigned.

Works independently with minimum supervision: To provide excellence in employee and patient care, under the direct supervision of the Infection Control Director (System).

Education:
Graduate of a Baccalaureate Degree in a Healthcare related field with knowledge of Hospital Epidemiology principles and Infection Prevention.

Previous experience in Infection Prevention required. Knowledge of computer programs Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Able to present Infection Prevention data to groups and committees using both clinical and layman's language and interpretation.

Experience:
Minimum 5 year Clinical Hospital experience or Clinical Hospital Laboratory experience in the Microbiology Department, or public health experience.

Licenses/Certifications:
Current Florida Registered Professional Nurse License or Certification in Medical Technology by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Certification in Infection Control (CBIC) is required within 3 years of employment.
