This Instructional Lab Equipment Manager will be responsible for equipment and safety throughout the collegiate instructional laboratories (including, but not limited to ME manufacturing processes, ISE design for manufacturing, ChemE unit operations, fluids and material science laboratories), while assisting in the machine shop to train students on existing equipment (as time permits). The Instructional Lab Equipment Manager will exercise expertise in operation, troubleshooting, and repair of a variety of laboratory equipment, including equipment requiring interpretative knowledge. Support maintenance of equipment or arrange for repair by other campus facilities. Design or modify instrumentation, based on specifications provided by the faculty. Ensure that instructional laboratory spaces are clean and well-maintained and work with leadership to plan for and improve space to meet department needs. Improve existing safety processes and implement/enforce safety procedures and accident prevention programs, in collaboration with others. Promote understanding and support of the university, collegiate, and departmental safety policies. Provide effective orientation and training to new employees and others, as needed. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of the Engineering Machine Shop.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks

• Provide support to faculty for installation, repair, minor modifications and maintenance of the instructional teaching laboratory equipment; including data acquisition devices, analytical instrumentation, experimental apparati, and other specialized equipment.
• Primary point of contact for all teaching-lab equipment related issues.
• Maintain instructional laboratory equipment, tooling and tools, and replace and arrange for repair of damaged or worn-out equipment and tooling.
• Improve existing safety processes and implement/enforce safety procedures and accident prevention programs.
• Promote understanding and support of university, collegiate, and departmental safety policies.
• Provide effective orientation and training to new employees and others, as needed.
• Instruct students and staff on proper use of laboratory equipment, selection of materials, safety protocols.
• Train teaching assistants on safety and operation of laboratory equipment and tools.
