BBC Scotland News is the nation's leading provider of news on television, radio, online and social media.
The mobile and online team is responsible for BBC Scotland’s digital news service – in text and video. The team is at the forefront of BBC Scotland's journalism, combining breaking and developing news with accessible analysis and explanation of events. It aims to deliver the highest quality journalism, with a focus on younger and underserved audiences, and bring together output from the whole BBC Scotland newsroom.
Main ResponsibilitiesReport quickly and accurately the Scottish news stories of the day – from breaking news incidents to social issues - to a rolling deadline.
Produce original journalism by using a wide range of contacts and sources and identify innovative story ideas and treatments for an online audience.
Write and produce a wide range of "added value" content to inform audiences, including backgrounders and Q&As to explain key issues and features to reflect Scotland's culture.
Report on news stories in the field and from the office, conduct interviews, attend media conferences and live events, and report from court.
Use a wide range of social media to engage with and reach our online audience.
Work with broadcast video and audio output, sourcing user generated content (UGC ) and working with online content management systems.
Work as an integral part of the BBC Scotland News team, working alongside producers, correspondents and reporters, as well as the wider BBC.
Are you the right candidate?The ability to work quickly and accurately to a rolling deadline and respond to breaking news, producing high quality copy that demonstrates the BBC’s values of impartiality and fairness.
Sound editorial judgement, making decisions on matters of editorial sensitivity under pressure.
Demonstrable understanding of the law in relation to online journalism and the BBC's editorial guidelines.
Proven ability to deliver original journalism.
A clear understanding of the Scottish news and current affairs agenda.
The ability to tell complex stories in an engaging way using a variety of text, video, and social media.
Ability to build and maintain a range of contacts and sources.
Work with a wide range of teams across the BBC.
