Job Highlights

Keep L&I’s employees safe and working by performing electrical and HVAC maintenance on L&I owned buildings in Thurston County. In this role, you’ll work as a fully qualified electrician to perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on electrical equipment and systems of 600 volts or less. Additionally, you’ll perform HVAC system maintenance, repairs of plumbing, heating, water testing, cooling, refrigeration, and more. If you have a Washington State Electrical License/Certificate (EL01), this could be the perfect role for you.

Duties

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Install, modify, maintain, and repair interior and exterior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, and power circuits.
  • Works with electrical and mechanical companies in the development and implementation of electrical/mechanical projects.
  • Assists in the review electrical plans for accuracy and code compliance and provides comments accordingly.
  • Installs, adjusts, maintains, modifies and repairs elect motors, equipment, and instruments such as, clocks, metering devices, power tools, motors and generators.
  • Respond to emergency power outage situations or other building system emergencies and provides recommendations to return building to normal operations.
  • Conducts and maintains preventative maintenance program for all HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Maintains, diagnosis, and repairs HVAC system components including, but not limited to: air handlers, variable air volume units and controls, air flow dampers, V belts, sheaves, pulleys, and bearings, and setting up additional thermal comfort zones.
  • Maintains and repairs commercial refrigeration equipment
  • Performs Building inspections and data collecting to determine necessary repairs and project cost
  • Assists other Maintenance and Operations teammates with maintenance and grounds tasks as required, including repairing walls, pressure washing, and snow/ice treatment.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Current EL-01 License OR Master electrician license
  • 5 years or more working Journeyman level in commercial, industrial, residential new construction, remodel, TI, and/or service

AND

  • Journey level standing as an Electrician as attested by:
    • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship,

OR

  • Full journey level status in an Electrical Workers Union


AND

  • 4 years of applicable experience and extensive knowledge with HVAC equipment service, diagnostic, repair and maintenance.

OR

  • Four years’ applicable work experience. Vocational training

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license, free from serious traffic violations.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans and sketches to perform work and generate estimates for labor and materials required to accomplish work.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in assorted trades.
  • Valid driver’s license with clear driving record.
  • Willing and able to stand for four or more hours at a time.


DESIRED:

  • Ability to read, interpret, and retain information from plans, specifications and written materials.
  • Understand and follow applicable laws, regulations, and other standards to establish and/or maintain a safe workplace.
  • Able to organize multiple assignments to produce work products that are accurate, complete, and on time.
  • Willing and able to work independently with little or no on-site supervisory direction.
  • Knowledge of current energy codes and work safety requirements
  • Current EPA universal refrigerant handling certification
  • Current backflow testing certification
  • AD01 certification
