Our Lead Arborists serve as leaders to Consulting Utility Foresters (CUFs) and other operations department employees. They will perform inspections to identify VM work to be executed, conduct audits of work identified by CUFs as a quality control measure, as well as post-work audits of executed VM work by tree pruning contractors as needed, and assist PacifiCorp employees in monitoring contractor performance. In their role, they also serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and customers and will assist with resolving concerns that arise.
Lead Arborists assist the Operations Manager in making certain that ACRT personnel are working safely in the field and are equipped with all necessary PPE. They will conduct regional benchmarks to ensure team members are consistent in their planning methodology, according to contract specifications. Lead Arborists will also conduct pre-patrol meetings with field teams to assure each understands the scope of the feeder being patrolled. Lead Arborists will help track and make sure to close out all work releases and project documentation. Lead Arborists will accomplish other duties as assigned.
Role Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • 2 years minimum experience working on electric utility projects.
  • ISA Certified Arborist.
  • ISA Certified Utility Specialist.
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified or in the process of becoming certified within 6 months of role designation.
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.
  • High level of communication and organization skills required.
  • High level of Customer Service skills required.
  • Experience working with data collection devices and GIS software desired.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Self-motivated, organized, and production oriented.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (available nights and weekends as needed).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check required.

The Lead Arborists must also be able to perform all duties of the field CUF including:
  • Our Foresters perform identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines; Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations;
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of assigned tree clearance crews;
  • Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues;
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Two-year forestry degree or equivalent OR high school diploma plus two years of UVM experience.
  • Vegetation management experience preferred.
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with GIS-integrated data collection software/hardware is preferred but not required.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and production oriented.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in an independent environment and managing a geographical area for all vegetation-related activities.
  • Candidate must be able to work with stakeholders, utility customers, and line clearance vendors and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Multi-tasking and strong time management skills required.
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (available nights and weekends as needed).
  • Valid driver's license required.

Equipment, environmental and safety requirements:
  • Driving cars, trucks.
  • Walking on uneven ground.
  • Exposure to excessive noise.
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity, or wetness.
  • Operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement.
  • Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and chemicals.
  • Various forestry-related equipment, including but not limited to DBH tape and various safety-related equipment such as hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses, etc.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree or experience in Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Environmental Studies, Conservation, Natural Resources, or related fields.
  • ISA Certification, ISA Utility Specialist, and 2 years of utility vegetation management experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office [Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook] or similar software suite.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum age of 21.
Required Skills:

  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
  • Ability to read and follow maps.
  • Ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle.
