Job description
The Town of Acton is seeking a full time Local Building Inspector reporting to the Building Commissioner in the Building Department. Acton is a vibrant community with approximately 1400 building permits issued per year.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares daily work schedule, conducts and logs carious activities, assists at the service counter, communicates with citizens and contractors, schedules appointments both internally and externally, and prepares letters. Reviews plans on all approved permitted projects. Communicates laws, technical requirements, ordinances of the appropriate model codes from builders, contractors, subcontractors, individual homeowners, design professionals. Inspects places for compliance with statues. Issues stop work orders on projects and coordinates work with other departments and Town staff. Responds to emergencies and may represent the Building Commissioner at public meetings or in office in his absence. Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Valid Drivers License. High School diploma or equivalency. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supervision of building construction or design or at least a two (2) year associates degree in field related to building construction or design or any combination of education and experience. Must be qualified by the MA BBRS per 780 CMR ch110.R7.
Preferred Qualifications: Proven interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact and communicate with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Ability to operate office equipment as demonstrated by previous work experience. Basic knowledge of principles of government regulation and the ability to read, interpret, apply, and communicate Town charter, to perform the essential duties of this position.
Special Requirements: Physical activities include frequently lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Work is performed outdoors, exposed to adverse weather conditions.
Pay Rate: H14, $36.2459 - $47.2927/hr.; $75,391.42 - $98,368.92/annually.
