Introduction

In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Wildlife Biologist located at Ladysmith Service Center in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

Position Summary


Wildlife Biologist - LTE

This position will work closely with the area wildlife supervisor and wildlife technician. Duties include: setting up CWD sample collection kiosks and collecting hunter harvested CWD samples. Setting up CWD cooperators as sampling stations. Performing tissue extraction of lymph nodes and collecting deer heads for aging purposes. Mowing hunter walking trails, forest openings and dam embankments.

25% Setting up CWD kiosks and meat processors and collecting hunter harvested samples throughout the archery and gun deer seasons.

25% Setting up CWD kiosks and meat processors and collecting hunter harvested samples throughout the archery and gun deer seasons.

25% Perform tissue extraction of lymph nodes following all lab and safety protocols.

25% Other duties as assigned by the area wildlife supervisor or wildlife biologist.


Salary Information


This position pays $16.50 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04. For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details


This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:
This position requires a drivers license, an understanding in wildlife management practices and the ability to work as a team member to accomplish common goals.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience setting up CWD kiosks for collecting hunter harvested samples; experience collecting lymph nodes for CWD testing and experience operating tractors with various implements.
