GENERAL SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician operates, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, tests, and makes rounds taking regular readings on all power plant equipment and systems. Provides safety and environmental stewardship. Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures. Keeps all equipment in optimum operating condition. Develops and participates in continuous improvement of operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

Here's a look at some of the work you will be performing:

  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, disassembly, inspection, repair and installation of plant mechanical equipment. This equipment includes blowers, compressors, valves of all types, centrifugal, diaphragm and barrel pumps, heat exchangers, motors, and gearboxes in addition to others
  • Perform shaft alignment with dial indicators
  • Use of welders, plasma cutters and torches to weld, heat, bend and fabricate a variety of metals
  • Fabricate and repair pipe, tubing, structural materials, etc. made of PVC or various metals, including threading or gluing
  • Perform vibration analysis, repair/replace bearings and mechanical seals, maintain belts and sheaves, replace gaskets and fittings of various types
  • Maintain the rolling stock, and be able to properly use slings and rigging
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and be willing to train others in all aspects of these duties
  • Complete other tasks as required by the Maintenance Manager
  • Knowledge or experience in the area of administrative, instrumentation and control, and/or electrical maintenance is a plus

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and cooperates with all plant personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods of time and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

    Some of the work is elevated and requires work on ladders and in confined spaces. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Must be able to pass a respiratory physical examination in order to wear a negative pressure - full face mask. Work with hazardous materials may be required.

  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
  • Experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright or equivalent is desired
  • Basic industrial mechanical expertise, including knowledge of fasteners, installation/removal of bolts and flanges, as well as various methods of torque and torque applicators
  • Knowledgeable in the proper use of various gaskets, methods of lubrication, and skillful with belt maintenance and installation
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools such as slings and rigging, taps and dies, hydraulic presses, various pneumatic tools, grinders and sanders, horizontal band saws, as well as industrial machines such as milling, threading and rotary lathes
  • Knowledge in the use of a plasma cutter and able to weld stick and TIG is required
  • Must be able to operate or willing to be trained to operate a Class 4 counterbalanced forklift, Class 7 rough terrain forklift, Aerial, and Scissor lift
  • Familiarity with performing IR (Infrared Camera Scans), and even more so with the safety practices necessary for the performance of mechanical duties, and help keep others safe
  • Able to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and apply them to mechanical work is required
  • Excellent communication and team skills and a working knowledge of Excel and PC based applications
  • Valid driver's license is required
