DIVISION OVERVIEW
The Housing Operations Division (HOD) manages 3,229 public and affordable housing units located at 68 sites, serving more than 6,500 residents. HOD generates and utilizes the resources of the LACDA to provide quality affordable housing and expand opportunities to improve the quality of life in housing developments through the involvement of employees, residents, and community partners. HOD also implements and administers various funds for the improvement and modernization of the public housing developments and utilizes various grants to provide needs-based services to public housing residents, including at-risk youth and their families.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Service Plumber must be licensed by the State of California for the following:

Contractor License Plumbing C36 and/or Contractor License C4 Boiler, Hot Water Heating and Steam Filtering
- Backflow testing (see condition of employment)
The Service Plumber position is located at Nueva Maravilla Housing Development in East Los Angeles, but the Service Plumber may be required to travel to other LACDA locations.
The Service plumber must be available for maintenance and plumbing emergency requests and weekend response.
Essential Job Duties

Lift up to 50 pounds
- Provide plumbing services,
- Inspect sewer lines,
- Assess for leaks and stoppages,
- Conduct back-flow certifications, valve replacements, water heater change-outs, boiler repairs and drain cleaning.
- Inspect and review the plumbing work of maintenance workers.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on boiler systems.
- Operate, maintain, and repair equipment.
- Train staff in plumbing techniques and use of equipment.
- General residential building maintenance repair and vacant unit preparations
- Knowledge of plumbing methods, materials, equipment such as snakes, jetters, cameras and locators.
- Knowledge of safety regulations used in various skilled building maintenance trades.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry skills.
- Ability to apply a range of plumbing skills in repairing and maintaining buildings systems and related structural facilities.
- Ability to train maintenance workers in proper plumbing techniques.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
- Perform arduous physical activities and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent required. Five (5) years skilled experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Contractor License Plumbing C36 and/or Contractor License C4 Boiler, Hot Water Heating and Steam Filtering
- Certified/Licensed for backflow testing (see condition of employment).
- Condition of Employment: Candidates that do not hold a Back-flow certification upon hiring must satisfactorily complete the Backflow certification within six (6) months of employment.
Proof of Certifications are required and must be uploaded to application at the time for filing. Applications can be rejected without proof of required certifications.
Additional Information
ARDUOUS: Maintenance Workers routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds, constantly stoop and bend, work with hands and arms raised above the head, grasp materials and equipment with both hands, and climb ladders and stairs.
NOTE: Salary compensation is Dependent on Qualifications (experience, education, skills and abilities). Initial salary placement is generally made at the beginning to mid-point of the posted range. New hires are not eligible to start at the maximum of the posted range.
Successful applicants must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License, an acceptable driving record and comply with the LACDA's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
