Job description
The Mammography Technologist, under direct supervision, performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients for our client facilities. Mammography Technologist may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates X-ray equipment and performs various mammography and other radiology related procedures
- Prepares and positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately
- Explain procedures and educate patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health
- Develops and evaluates the images for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion
- Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines
- Critiques all images prior to presenting quality screening x-ray to the radiologist ensuring that images meet departmental and radiologist's quality expectations
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines
- Performs post-procedural duties, which include patient discharge, room clean up, and coordination with other day-to-day functions. Monitors equipment for proper functionality; follow up calls to patients and schedule for additional imaging outside of facility, as needed
- Responsible for achieving and maintaining ACR accreditation, FDA certification and ACR quality control testing
- Radiology charge entry
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology
- One-year, full-time experience as a Mammography Technologist and other radial basic Radiology
- Must meet MQSA (FDA) requirements in mammography
- Experience processing additional arrangements preferred
- PACS experience preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATION:
- Valid state radiology registration as required by state law
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
- Advanced ARRT certification in mammography preferred
- Current CPR/BLS Certification
