Job description

We’re Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK (MHUK) - two leading mental health charities who’ve been supporting people with their mental health for over 50 years. No matter how bad things are, we help people severely affected by mental illness to improve their lives and we’re on a mission to bring about meaningful change, through our services, groups and ground-breaking campaigns.

Our Mental Health and Money Advice Service is the first UK-wide service to address mental and financial health together. We aim to stop the spiral of debt and mental health issues by providing online information and advice and casework provided by telephone. The service launched in November 2017, commissioned by Mental Health UK and delivered by Rethink Mental Illness in England, Hafal in Wales, Support in Mind in Scotland and Mindwise in Northern Ireland.

As a Mental Health and Money Navigator you will support people with mental illness and their carers with money problems. You will be the first point of entry for self-referrals to the mental health and money advice (MHMA) service via our helpline.

You will triage self referrals and:

  • Provide unregulated advice and casework to people (ie provide them with financial capability and simple benefits advice)
  • Refer people to the specialist mental health and money advisers for more complex advice, including regulated debt advice.
  • Signpost/refer to other forms of money support when the person’s mental heath needs do not warrant the intervention of MHMA.

You will also support the Mental Health and Money Advisers with their casework for example completing budget sheets and supporting with correspondence.

As leading charity providers of mental health support and services in the UK, people living with mental illness and those who care for them are at the heart of everything we do. We know, from our vast experience, that people severely affected by mental illness can have a good quality of life. With your support, we will make that possible.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of working with electronic case recording systems.
  • Experience of providing customer service over the phone.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable clients, particularly people affected by mental illness

You may also have:

  • Experience of providing money guidance or financial capability advice.
  • Experience in remote advice delivery e.g. telephone, email, virtual chat etc.
  • Experience using AdvicePro database
  • Experience of providing telephone-based casework in debt or mental health
  • Experience of working directly with people affected by mental illness
