JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: SEASONAL TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT: NATURAL RESOURCES

STARTING PAY: $15.50 HOURLY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Semi-skilled seasonal entry level position requiring a minimum of experience. Aptitude and willingness to learn are desired attributes. Position assists in maintaining a high level of service in the maintenance of the City’s natural environments, rights-of-way, streets and sidewalks, stormwater collection and treatment systems and the City’s Transfer Station. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Natural Resource Supervisor or his designee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Turf maintenance: mowing, trimming, planting sod

2. Operates powered equipment: mowers, tractors, chainsaws, chippers, weed trimmers (training provided)

3. Tree & shrub trimming

5. Digs and refills ditches, loads dirt, asphalt, clay, gravel and other construction materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to communicate verbally using the English language.

2. Ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate basic hand tools and powered tools

3. Operate basic hand tools using hands, fingers to hold and feel, reach with hands and arms.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent

2. Valid Florida driver’s license.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
