The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Nurse Specialist to provide direct patient care and case management for the Pediatric Gastroenterology Section. This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations.The ideal candidate will be self-directed and utilize critical thinking skills, communicate effectively orally and in writing, possess and demonstrate leadership qualities, and be able to perform many tasks simultaneously. The selected candidate will act independently, be self-motivated, and problem solve tactfully and diplomatically. The ideal candidate will be able to prioritize clinical situations; ensure orders are written and carried out in an expeditious manner; provide nursing input into patient care; and facilitate communication between the specialty and ancillary departments and staff, making appropriate referrals as needed. The selected candidate will be expected to work with a positive approach in a team environment and interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. In addition, the selected candidate will serve as an educator for the patient population and other family members regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management. Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
