Job Summary

As a Licensed Mental Health Outpatient Therapist you will play a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess.

The Licensed Mental Health Outpatient Therapist delivers quality individual, family and group counseling services to patients and their families to determine short-term or long-term treatment needs and meet the patient’s social, emotional and psychological needs. Consistently performs in a manner that exemplifies Deaconess standards for customer relations and patient satisfaction.

  • Performs diagnostic intake evaluations, which may include the skilled use of a variety of culturally sensitive mental health assessment tools.

  • Conducts individual, family and group counseling services which incorporate evidence-based treatment modalities.

  • Develops, implements and conducts psychoeducational programming.

  • As needed, performs crisis de-escalation and intervention services in collaboration with appropriate community resources.

  • Monitors patient progress and updates/modifies treatment plan or refers patient as appropriate.

  • Independently assesses and evaluates a wide variety of psychiatric conditions and DSM-V diagnoses commonly found in the patient population served.

  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in diagnosis and treatment planning and the application of culturally sensitive treatment modalities to diverse patients.

  • Adheres to and demonstrates ethically sound clinical decision-making in accordance with established mental health ethics codes (e.g., APA, ACA, etc.) and practices within the boundaries of their competence.

  • Ability to maintain therapeutic posture with patients who are in various stages of emotional stability; ability to maintain control in volatile or hostile situations.

  • Collaborates with internal and external sources in providing clinical treatment.

  • Completes thorough and concise documentation of patient encounters within 24 hours of appointment.

  • Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record for documentation of patient encounters; enters charges accurately and timely.

  • Represent DFMR in internal and external networking and community activities to maintain and grow patient referral base and promote Residency.

  • Maintains knowledge of and professional relationships with other mental health care providers and their services.

  • Maintains availability for patients with urgent needs and/or arranges for coverage by an alternate provider in the Deaconess Family Medicine Residency.

  • Committed to growth and development of professional skills through participation in continuing education.

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in social work or related field.

  • Experience working with psychiatric patients in an outpatient setting is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Licensed mental health provider: Licensed clinical social worker, Licensed Marriage and Family therapist or Licensed Mental Health Counselor required.

  • Accepting both Indiana and Kentucky licensure.
