  • UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Outreach & Engagement Specialist in our Customer Communications and Outreach (CC&O) team. This important and influential role requires a strategic mindset around communications and an eagerness to collaborate with ITS colleagues and others around UVA. This role involves understanding the many services we provide to the University, the ability to translate complex technical changes and concepts into straightforward terms, and an unwavering commitment to a positive user experience. The goal of the Customer Communications and Outreach team is to disseminate information about ITS services and major projects and initiatives in support of a positive user experience.

    Working as part of our CC&O team, you will be the lead outreach and engagement consultant, planner, and delivery expert for ITS. This position will design and maintain effective, informative, and creative communications and productively engage with all our stakeholders via social, web and event opportunities. The Outreach & Engagement Specialist reports to the Director for Customer Communications and Outreach.

    This position provides planning and services related to supporting effective communication between ITS and the UVA community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni to advance the university's mission. This position will:

    • Develop strategic outreach and engagement plans that span social, web, and events.
    • Support the management of key strategic relationships for ITS with stakeholders across the university.
    • Serve as a trusted representative of the audience perspective and sentiment.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring the delivery of strategic and timely communications messages and campaigns to achieve specific, measurable goals, in alignment with organizational priorities.
    • Ensuring quality content creation and excellent cross-team communications.
    • Writing across web, digital, and social platforms to support project and organization goals.
    • Supporting the development of an outreach and engagement plan and programs, and executing on that plan.
    • Establishing and maintaining key strategic relationships with partner and stakeholder groups.
    • Supporting the development of outreach events and leading the execution and delivery of those events.
    • Develops and monitors communication analytics that inform communication strategy, reporting on those analytics and trends regularly.
    • Managing our communications and outreach content calendar.
    • Ensures compliance with editorial guidelines and visual standards within the tone and voice of UVA ITS.

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma
    • 5 years relevant experience.
    • Experience translating technical language for a general audience.
    • Experience creating and executing on a social media strategy and plan across multiple platforms.
    • Experience maintaining and updating a comprehensive content calendar across all channels.
    • Experience planning, hosting and delivering outreach events.
    • Experience building an outreach plan and programming.
    • Self-motivated, resourceful, and inclusive.
    • Able to work collaboratively and independently.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet demanding deadlines with a variety of stakeholders and teams.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
    • Experience developing and reporting on communication and engagement analytics.
    • Experience communicating to various audiences within higher education, especially students and faculty.
    • Experience contributing to and publishing a newsletter.
    • Experience engaging stakeholder groups and partners, and building strategic relationships.

    Work Arrangement: Flexible Hybrid

    Anticipated hiring range:

    • $64,000 – 74,000, further pay considerations to be commiserate with experience

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
