The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Patient Services Coordinator II. Patient Services Coordinator II position under general supervision, will work closely with the clinic social work and nursing teams to provide top-notch customer service for established patients by providing timely responses regarding billing concerns, transportation needs, and other duties as assigned. This position will have some direct patient contact.


Key Duties, Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating and/or administering certain clinical and patient services and for performing administrative duties in support of physician staff and operations
  • Responsible for the conduct of patient scheduling
  • Coordinates outpatient scheduling and facilitates in-patient pre-certification and admitting processes as necessary
  • Serves as an advocate for patient and patient family assisting patients and patient families with obtaining services and assistance available within the University or Birmingham community
  • Answers patient and patient family inquiries verbally or in writing
  • Assists in resolving patient problems
  • Follows up with patients and patient families regarding post-treatment/post-operative status
  • May supervise clerical staff
  • Investigate UAB 1917 Clinic patient billing problems to determine the cause and insure that the correct payer was billed
  • Resolve problems through interactions with UAB Hospital and HSF billing staff
  • If patient is eligible for financial assistance utilizing grants assist in guiding patient through the application process
  • Be an active part of the social services team to provide support and information to social workers and patients regarding billing challenges
  • This position will communicate with patients and the social work team to communicate outcomes
  • Arrange medical transportation for 1917 clinic patients and communicate effectively with patients and social work team
  • Maintain a working knowledge Ryan White policy legislation and UAB billing, in order to assist with 1917 Clinic patients with available resources and resolve systemic chronic billing problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hourly Pay Range – $16.00 - $26.00


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • One (1) year of related experience required
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
