General Responsibilities:
Supervision and management of school programming to include: instructional programs, school culture, student safety, staff supervision, recruitment and hiring, facility management and ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.

Instructional Improvement
1. Organize, directs and evaluates all instruction in the building and affiliated sites.
2. Identifies building needs and determines educational objectives.
3. Plans and implements the prescribed educational plans with staff.
4. Leads school building planning process to ensure the development. implementation and evaluation of all school programs and activities.
5. Supervises the instructional programs of the school
6. Collects and analyzes data regarding the needs and achievements of students, including state assessments.
7. Establishes a building master schedule for instructional programs to include integration opportunities for students.
8. Establishes and promotes a building environment that sets high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
9. Organizes, manages and supervises procedures for operation and functioning of the building under the auspice of Erie 1 BOCES.

Staff Personnel
1. Selects, assigns, supervises, evaluates, transfers and discharges all personnel in the building, in consultation with the Associate Director and other district administration.
2. Orients and mentors' staff with their duties and responsibilities.
3. Schedules and conducts staff meetings.
4. Leads the school building team in overseeing the implementation of supplemental programs, developing the school-based budget, building community and parental support and other elements to include:

o Improved student performance

o Research and data-based curriculum development

o School building-based leadership and decision making ensuring a comprehensive plan with annual student's achievement targets, supported by parents and staff.

o Infusion of technology tools in every classroom to enhance the curriculum

o School building safety plan conducive to learning, including a school security program.

o Coordination of building level resources for comprehensive student health and social services.

Pupil Personnel
1. Provides a communication system, in conjunction with home school districts and the Associate Director, relating to student placement, attendance and follow-up of student performance.
2. Develops and implements procedures relating to health, safety, discipline and conduct of students assigned to the building.
3. Develops and implements a positive school/community climate to promote a healthy and safe learning environment including regular safety drills to include disaster preparedness.
4. Organizes and supervises daily procedures for identifying and addressing special needs of students including health related concerns, emotional and special learning needs.
5. Oversees the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from the building and works with district transportation contacts to resolve concerns.

Financial and Business Management
1. Develops and monitors a building budget in consultation with the Associate Director.
2. Coordinates and maintains a system of budget control for all expenditures and purchases within the building.
3. Implements and manages an effective building accounting and inventory system for all school supplies, materials and equipment.
4. Maintains and accounts for all student activity funds and record keeping in accordance with Erie 1 BOCES policy.

Building and Grounds
1. Makes recommendations to the Associate Director and host district's administration regarding building and grounds maintenance, repair and alteration issues.
2. Works collaboratively with the host districts custodial staff to oversee the regular custodial care of the buildings and grounds to provide a safe and appropriate educational environment.

Organization and Administration
1. Maintains visibility with students, staff, parents and the community.
2. Communicates regularly with staff, students, parents, host district and the community, in conjunction with the Associate Director, about relevant building program issues.
3. Accepts accountability for the overall effectiveness of the building and the responsiveness of its overall operation to the needs of students, parents, host districts and the community in accordance with Erie 1 BOCES policy and procedures.
4. Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Special Education or the Executive Director, Instructional Programs and Services.


Job Qualifications
  • Must hold valid NYS School Building Leader Certification

  • Experience in School Administration

  • Experience in Special Education
