Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Proactive Maintenance Senior Engineer at our Burns Harbor, Indiana operation. This reliability-oriented position will develop, refine and implement appropriate maintenance action plans used to proactively manage equipment performance.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Implement and meet Cleveland-Cliffs safety requirements as outlined by safety leadership.
  • Review and maintain equipment hierarchy in the computerized maintenance management system as per Burns Harbor plant standard.
  • Interact with salaried and hourly personnel assigned to the plant maintenance sections to manage asset performance.
  • Facilitate asset prioritizations that identify the criticality and relative risk of equipment systems and subsystems.
  • Conduct delay analysis and failure tracking to improve asset reliability by focusing on problem areas.
  • Develop expertise in the use and application of current Predictive Maintenance (PdM) technologies.
  • Aid and instruct maintenance team members in PdM application.
  • Create PdM procedural documents to aid in personnel training.
  • Identify opportunities to use more advanced PdM technologies.
  • Complete annual Burns Harbor PdM schedule and provide feedback to departmental maintenance teams with findings.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems in the plant with PdM equipment such as infrared cameras, vibration tools, etc.
  • Support the development of continuous improvement programs (oil management, real time vibration data collection, etc.) throughout the plant.
  • Support lubrication training at plant training facility for graduating mechanical technician classes or at departmental request.
  • Administer and support monthly plant vibration routes with contracted firms internally or with contracted firms.
  • Originate monthly requisitions for vibration data collection and analysis services.
  • Receipt vibration purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Administer and support monthly oil sampling program internally or with contracted firms.
  • Originate monthly and quarterly requisitions for contracted plant oil sampling services.
  • Receipt oil sampling purchase orders in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • 5 years of work experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Possess team building, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer experience in MS Office software.
  • Possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to operate effectively with a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and detailed drawings.
  • Possess skill and experience to facilitate RCM2 analyses, maintenance task analyses or current inspection implementations for preventive maintenance plan development.
  • Possesses skills and experience to facilitate root cause failure analyses meetings and track recommended action implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of work experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Possess certifications for facilitating RCM2 analysis, maintenance task analysis, current inspection implementation, and/or root cause failure analysis.
  • Tabware computer experience or similar CMMS systems.
