Job Overview
The
Georgetown-Howard Center for Medical Humanities and Health Justice
is a newly established, dynamic joint venture between Georgetown and Howard Universities, funded by the Mellon Foundation. To be launched in Fall 2023, the Center will leverage the critical and analytic tools of the humanities and social sciences toward advancing health equity in the city of DC through three pillars (education, research, and engagement). The Center seeks a Program Administrator to manage its day-to-day operations, working closely with the Center Chief of Staff to ensure successful launch and execution.
Work Interactions
The Program Administrator will serve as a research and educational hub converging students, faculty, postdocs, and community partners in order to apply medical humanities toward addressing key health impact areas, health disparities related to race/ethnicity and income, and advancing health equity in the city of Washington, DC.
They will further support a joint undergraduate degree program and a faculty and community partner fellowship program; and nurture cohorts of medical humanities-trained and oriented change-makers in Washington, DC. Through this multivalent and longitudinal work, the Center seeks to transform the field of medical humanities, the humanities and health professions pipeline, our institutions, and our city itself.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Program Administrator will partner closely with the Executive Co-Directors and the Chief of Staff, they will perform a variety of administrative tasks. Responsibilities include providing support to the executive team and managing general Center tasks and administrative duties, including organizing schedules and events, making travel and meeting arrangements, maintaining student schedules and course plans, preparing reports and maintaining appropriate filing systems, bookkeeping, directing communications, entering data, and maintaining Center space and equipment.

Education Requirement
High School diploma - preference for Bachelor’s degree
Training/Experience Requirements
  • Strong interest and commitment to the mission and work of the Center
  • Proven experience as an Administrative Assistant, Virtual Assistant or Office Admin Assistant (5+ years ideal) in a progressively complex administrative and customer service experience managing the work of senior leadership or C-level executive(s)
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and in Google Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, etc.), and PDF
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Working knowledge of office equipment – for example, printers and fax machines

Specific Technical Competency Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Sheets, and PowerPoint.

Work Mode: Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. The position’s work mode is flexible and may change over time as the Center’s needs shift: around the launch, the Program Administrator will be expected to be “on location” at least 2-3 days per week, with designated space in our shared space in central DC.
This is a one-year renewable position. Salary is competitive and includes benefits.
