ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
As a member of the Career and Advising Center (CAC) staff, this position has extensive involvement with students, the public, and outside agencies in order to support the operation of the center. Under general supervision, this position performs work using knowledge and experience specific to the functions carried out in the CAC. Responsibilities include scheduling student advising appointments through the phone, in-person and over email, preparing for student advising and information sessions; completing reports that facilitate specialized programs (including Academic Standards and Early Alert); assisting students with college navigational questions or concerns, helping to maintain smooth functioning of the office; accessing of staff schedules to identify staffing needs and gaps; collaboration with outside offices; and, support of office goals, This position requires exceptional customer service skills both in-person and over the phone, and attention to detail.-
Assist at office front counter. Provide information and recommendations to students, staff, and/or public regarding specific programs and policies, i.e. Transfer, Health Occupations, Career/Technical and Career Services.

Communicate clearly and effectively, as well as actively listen to in order to provide excellent customer service.

Keep supervisor and staff informed of need-to-know items by sharing complete and accurate information.

Maintain calm in stressful situations that may be encountered in-person or over the phone; work effectively under difficult conditions.

Prepare for new student advising sessions by scheduling rooms, making appointments for students, preparing session materials and reviewing advising coverage.

Reporting: Complete reports which facilitate various programs (e.g. Academic Standards and Early Alert), as well as several other reports required to maintain smooth operation of the center. Communicate reports with appropriate staff, mediate discrepancies.

Attend meetings as program representative. Make public presentations related to the program.

Create, process, and monitor student information as it relates to CAC functions.

Use word processing, graphics, statistical, spreadsheet and/or database software (e.g. Microsoft Office, ctcLink).

Assist in the training, scheduling and supervision of student workers.

Maintain confidentiality.

Purchase materials and supplies; assist in managing related budgets items.

Support the mission and goals of the department and the institution

Perform the duties of Program Assistant.

Perform related duties as required.

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in customer service.

Experience working with under-represented populations and demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity and academic success of community college students

Strong interpersonal skills – approachable and patient when working in a high volume setting

Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to work and interact effectively with general public, colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.

Ability to problem solve, multitask, prioritize, and maintain excellent customer services while remaining flexible to a dynamic work environment subject to constant change.

Professional experience in a higher education setting.

Ability to speak another language other than English (preferably in one of the top languages spoken in the Kent, Auburn community: Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Somali)
