Under the direction of the Healthy Living Manager, the Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for conducting safe, effective and enjoyable class by providing leadership, up-to-date quality instruction and high energy motivation. The Gymnastics Instructor demonstrates cause-driven leadership through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies - Mission Advancement; Collaboration; Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth. The Gymnastics Instructor engages in and promotes the YMCA mission through the core values: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility and Respect.

Essential Functions:

  • Plans and instructs fitness and/or related classes, following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  • Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
  • Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintain current certifications.
  • Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
  • Ensures a safe and effective program. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.
  • Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long term participation.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
  • Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
  • Any additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

A. Experience:

  • Must have basic knowledge of Gymnastics or equivalent work/education experience; must have at minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a program instructor relating to this field.

B. Education/Certification

  • High school Diploma
  • CPR and First Aid (must obtain within first 6 months of employment)

C. Skills:

  • Ability to lead a class; ability to motivate and educate members in the field of the programs XXX; ability to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.
  • Ability to communicate to a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to keep track of participants enrolled in their program.

D. Interpersonal Skills:

  • Familiar with the culture and mission of the organization
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Friendly and polite.
  • Ability to be gracious with all persons of various ages, cultures, and creeds.

. Must be physically fit to lead a class at the appropriate level.
