Cleveland-Cliffs Steel; is seeking a Program Managers Plant Safety Support in East Chicago, Indiana. This individual will provide direct plant safety operational support to approximately six (6) of our plants by geographical regions, ensuring key company safety programs and policies are effectively implemented and followed. In addition, this individual will help site safety staff and operations managers build fundamental safety management practices.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-field direction and support for operations sites and identify effective improvement solutions
  • Teach and coach effective hazard recognition: Job Safety Briefings, Take 5s, and Safety Interactions
  • Lead and assist in significant incident investigations, Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), and action planning
  • Assist with effective Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) development and implementation based on findings from safety audits and assessments
  • Evaluate and assist in implementation of Cleveland-Cliffs safety best practices and safety improvement initiatives
  • Guide and assist with continual improvement of company safety programs and performance
  • Influence plant leaders to promote positive safety change (program, system, leadership, and culture.
  • Actively maintain positive joint union/management relations in site operations
  • Provide in-field direction and support for special emphasis initiatives across assigned sites
  • Participate in planning, provide advice, and problem solving for major plant outages and other projects, as needed for designated Cleveland-Cliffs sites

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related fields
  • On-going completion of leadership and professional development courses or seminars
  • At least ten (10) years Health & Safety Management experience in steel or heavy manufacturing including a strong working knowledge of Health and Safety programs and regulations (OSHA, FRA, NRC, etc.)
  • Experience in implementing effective and proactive safety programs
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with union safety leaders
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of executive, senior, and plant management
  • Approximately 50% travel with overnight stays
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively under minimum supervision
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related fields
  • Professional certification (CSP, CIH, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge of Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001)
