The Complex Property Desk Adjuster position supports the Claim Division goal of ensuring customer service industry leadership and partners with agency to deliver seamless claim service. An experienced adjuster who can work on moderately complex claims.
What You Can Expect
In this role you will work remotely from the desk to handle complex Homeowner’s and Renter’s property claims. You will handle the claims process for all lines of first-party coverage: (structure, contents, and ALE) mostly for claims up to $50,000. This also includes managing multiple vendors needed for each claim, as applicable. 70-80% of the claims handled by this role are fire-related and/or water-related losses. The typical workload expected while handling complex claims is 19-25 per week. This role would be the career step before a large loss position. The anticipated salary for a new hire to this team is $68,000 to $75,000 depending on geographic location and experience.

Job Family Summary
Investigates and maintains property claims. Secures relevant information regarding a loss, determines a cost-efficient manner of adjusting the loss, reviews coverages, arranges appraisals, prepares written communications, and proactively settles claims. This role will work from the desk.

Primary Accountabilities
- Investigates origin and cause of claims by contacting the appropriate parties including insureds, , claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation unit, other adjusters, public personnel, etc..
- Identifies complex issues and seeks assistance as needed. Handles claims on a good faith basis.
- Handles 1st party claims under multiple policy types and numerous endorsements.
- Evaluates damages, and handles claim negotiations with insureds, claimants, attorneys, public adjusters.
- Responds to customer inquiries, makes appropriate decisions, and closes file as needed.
- Interprets and determines policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles, and contract coverages and applies to all parties for assigned losses.
- Proactively provides all parties with a clear understanding of the claim process and claim status, as appropriate; answers questions or redirects to appropriate areas.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
- Demonstrated experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across our operating territories, or other equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience handling moderately complex claims, or other equivalent experience.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements related to casualty coverages, or other equivalent knowledge.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process, or other equivalent knowledge.
Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to climb or balance between 1 and 33% of the time (applies to field position only).
- This position requires the ability to work with distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) for extended periods of time (applies to field position only).
- This position requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl between 1 and 33% of the time (applies to field position only).
- This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds between 1 and 33% of the time.
Working Conditions
- This position requires the ability to work in high, precarious places between 1 and 33% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to outside weather conditions between 66 and 100% of the time (applies to field position only).
Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 10% of the time.
- Must be willing to travel for Catastrophe duty if necessary.
- Catastrophe specific roles requires travel up to 75% if the time .
Education & Licenses
- Valid driver's license required plus an acceptable driving record.
- Obtain state specific property casualty claims licensing as required.
Additional Qualifications
- Proficient with Xactimate or similar system is required
- Two or more years of Property claim handling experience handling ALE, contents, and structure is required
- Property claims experience handling multiple perils is preferred
- Experience regularly handling three or more new claims per day is required
- This role works extensively with vendors (water mitigation, mold removal, asbestos removal, etc), vendor experience is strongly preferred
Location
- This position is fully remote/work from home. On occasion you may be asked to travel to an office location for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Limited travel (1-2 times a year) may be required.
